HMC Grads are Highest Earning in Nation
The highest earning college graduates in the U.S. come from Harvey Mudd College, according to data released Thursday by PayScale, an online salary information company, in its 2010-11 College Salary Report.
President David Oxtoby Interviewed About Sustainability in “ScienceNews”
President David Oxtoby is interviewed in “A University Strives for the High Road to Sustainability” in the July 31 edition of ScienceNews. In the Q&A, Oxtoby discusses how Pomona College is ever broadening its sustainability efforts, including our policy to meet and possibly exceed LEED Gold standards for all new buildings and our efforts to reduce carbon consumption through sustainability efforts rather than by purchasing credits. He says: “We’re spending more money than [what carbon credits cost], for example, to build solar roofs, and if we were to divert that into carbon credits, it would save us money–but I don’t think it would accomplish the goal of reducing our use of energy.”
Professor of Physics Emeritus, Graydon “Gray” D. Bell, Dies at Age 87
Graydon “Gray” D. Bell, professor of physics emeritus, former Physics Department Chair and member of the founding faculty at Harvey Mudd College, died July 20 at his home in Claremont, Calif., at the age of 87.
“Volcanoes: Global Perspectives” Published Just Weeks After Eruption in Iceland Reminds World of Their Power and Widespread Impacts
Richard Hazlett, a professor of geology and environmental analysis at Pomona College, is the co-author, with John Lockwood, of Volcanoes: Global Perspectives,
which was published by Wiley-Blackwell at the end of May, six weeks
after Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupted, creating weeks of
havoc for European air travelers.
Candaele Retires As Football Coach
Rick Candaele has announced that he will retire as head football coach at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps effective August 15. Assistant Head Coach Steve Retzlaff will be the interim head coach for the 2010 season.
